From what I have learned, on declaration of both wars by England, there was wide-spread euphoria amongst Australians to enroll. Something that does not come across as a pacific outlook. They fought actively in the first world war, and then in the second when they declared war on Germany and invaded Poland. Australia has always linked itself too strongly to Britain – a dependent nation has to sooner or later face the enemies of its protector.
Australia, for playing a relatively small role really got hit hard. So sad that peaceful nations get dragged into this sort of thing.
